Scrapbook

If you find that you do not have time or money for real elaborate crafts, or you just want a little something to tie the week together, consider making scrapbooks. Not of what the kids did, but of what they learned each day.

Begin with a piece of card stock paper for each child each day. Depending on the lesson, have different shapes of die-cut paper (or patterns to trace, cut out and use). Provide magazines for the “pictures” or let children draw in the people. Or just use the shapes. Fancy-cut scissors, markers and trims could be provided as well as examples of Memory Maker pages. I would suggest having a few examples made up ahead of time to give the children ideas, as this can be a bit daunting at first, but I have found that once you get the kids going, they really run with it. Of course, you will have to work with younger children, but even my toddler likes to cut and paste.

Die-cut figures and shapes can be hand-made or purchased from craft stores such as Michael's or MJ Designs. Even Wal-Mart carries some these days.

Birth of Moses:
basket, blue paper cut with wavey scissors for the river, magazine picture of a baby and a young girl for Moses and Miriam, other background shapes such as sun, reeds, etc.
Call of Abraham
foot print or shoe print with sandal laces drawn on, arrows and lines for route markers, maps to cut up, water jug or canteen shape, hills, camels, donkeys etc.
Christ’s Death & Resurrection
Crosses, paper for making hills, cave/grave, stone, an angel
Love
Heart shapes in red, pink, mauve, white etc., pictures of people doing loving things -- like helping or smiling, etc., memory verse printed in fancy print for students to cut around with fancy scissors and paste on. Paper lace doilies would be good for this project.
Heaven (use shiny, pearly paper for shapes)
Gates, bricks of gold, throne, angels, music notes.

The possibilities are really endless, and it can be used for any lesson. At the end of the week, the children have a book to remind them of the week.

Handprint Sheep (a non-edible craft project)

Materials: Black construction paper, cotton balls, glue, wiggle eyes, or silver, or white colored pencil Trace each child's hand on the construction paper. Cut out hand. Leaving face and four hooves black, cover the rest of the sheep with cotton balls. Use wiggle eye or dot with a colored pencil to make the eye. Both sides can be covered with cotton balls and have the face decorated. You can punch a hole before gluing to place a piece of yarn through for hanging the sheep when completed. This project can be used as a Christmas project or as the "Sheep Treats" are suggested.

Pet Bible Rock

A Bible verse painted onto a rock and then spray varnish the rock is a fun idea. You can also add wiggley eyes and fun felt arms and feet

Keychains

My kids also enjoyed making keychain hearts, crosses, doves and other simple symbols out of compressed sponge availabe at Michaels and other craft stores.
STEPS:
  1. Cut shapes (precut for younger children)
  2. Punch hole with hole punch.
  3. Have a few designs samples to get the idea's flowing.
  4. Use a black Sharpe Fine point pen to outline your design. (you may do the ahead for younger children.
  5. Use regular water base marker and fill in different areas of your design.
  6. Take a paint brush or Q-tip and touch areas of the design that you want raised.
  7. Put a cord for a necklace and a chain for a key chain thru the hole.
  8. Let dry.
NOTE :Tell children lots of water will ruin their project and also tell them not to dip entire object in the water. It will expand to the size of a regular sponge.
AGE: I did this last year and ages from kindergarten up thru youth enjoyed this craft. Also it is fairly inexpensive to make.

Bible Verse Plaque

For those needing multi-day inexpensive crafts, consider creating a plaque containing a memory verse from the week. This can be as simple or complex as you desire. The base can be of wood (requiring sanding, painting, etc.) or cardboard. Borders can be added by stenciling, or other means. (One year our kids used jigsaw puzzle pieces from old puzzles, painted them & created a 3-dimensional multi-colored frame.) The actual lettering can be made from alphabet soup letters which can be colored with markers or coated with clear nail polish to provide a shine.

Light switches

We purchased light switch covers for approximately 25 cents each. Use permanent markers to decorate. We told the children that every time they turned on their light to remember that God's light shines on them.

Magnets

We also have asked carpet & tile businesses if they had any unused tile. We use 4x4 tile & decorate with permanent markers and make magnets for the refrigerator.
