History
Mariposa United Methodist Church The Mariposa United Methodist Church is one the area's historic churches. During the gold rush, traveling Catholic priests and Methodist Circuit Riders brought religious services to early California mining settlements. Services in Agua Fria were held in a saloon during a brief spell before the bar opened. A Sunday School was started in Mariposa in 1851. Cathey's Valley Methodists held open air camp meetings and built their first church in 1854, a year before Mariposa built their church, in 1855; however, a fire destroyed this Church and it was not rebuilt until 1893. The present church building was completed in 1962. Although we are proud of our history, our church is dedicated to an ongoing ministry, continually seeking new opportunities to serve in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are eager to serve you and offer you the joy of serving Christ through our church.
