God's Promise of Eternal Life God sent his son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. The promise of eternal life is obtained by accepting Jesus as our Savior. The good news of Jesus' birth was proclaimed in Luke 2:10-11. An angel of the Lord said, "Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. To you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord." Acknowledging Jesus Christ as your Savior will be a life-changing experience, but one with positive outcomes. It can be scary at first, especially for those of us with an inner control freak. But turning your life over to Christ will give you an inner peace that sometimes defies all understanding. "Come to me, all who are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30). Becoming a Christian requires you to follow these steps: 1. Ackowledge your sin and need for Jesus Christ as Savior. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) 2. Recognize God's love for you in sending Jesus to die on the cross for your sins. "For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but will have eternal life." (John 3:16) 3. Receive Jesus into your life by faith and trust Him as your Lord and Savior. "To all who believed and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God." (John 1:12) "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) 4. Commit yourself totally to God's plan for your life. "If you confess with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:9-13) What now? Now that you know the steps, all you need to do is ask Jesus to come into your heart. He loves you and is ready to accept you no matter what your sins of the past or present are. You can accept Him right now in prayer. Tell Jesus you know He is the only way to eternal life. Ask Him to forgive your sins and He will. "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." (Luke 11:9-10).
