History
Methodism in Marathon was born in 1830 with four members meeting in private homes and the school house. In 1842, the present building was completed and the congregation became a member a ten church preaching circuit. The church has survived a lightening strike, a tornado and being moved across the street. In 1931, Marathon became a centralized school and needed the land the church rested on. It was a huge undertaking to move the church across the street and turn it around--the job took nearly four weeks. In 1939, the sanctuary was "modernized." In more recent years, insulation was installed and thermopane windows added. The exterior ws protected and beautified with vinyl siding. In 1998, a major addition was built, consisting of a Christian education room, an office for the pastor, and a handicapped rest room. Every Sunday morning our 1862 church bell sounds over the valley, announcing that our old church is still proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to all who will listen. We appreciate the past, and plan for the future of Methodism in Marathon with anticipation. Worship Services Worship services are held every Sunday at 11am.
