Where Did We Come From

Our history: The Maize United Methodist Church began in 1880 as the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. The first church building was constructed in 1884, and was officially chartered in 1891.

In 1912, the church building was enlarged and redecorated. Large stained glass windows were added in the sanctuary. In 1922, the basement was added.

In 1946, the church became the Maize Evangelical United Brethren Church,
reflecting the merger of the United Brethren and Evangelical denominations.

Talk of a new church building started in 1954. Property for a building site was purchased in 1959. Work on a new building was started in the fall of 1964, and the church was completed by the spring of 1965. The first worship service was held on Easter Sunday in 1965.

The church became the Maize United Methodist Church in 1968, because of the merger of the former E.U.B. and Methodist churches.
