On a regular basis, United Methodists recite one of the historical Christian creeds or Confessions of Faith. What we do not do is tell one another what to believe about the statements so made. We've been accused of making mental reservations with our Faith, to the peril of our immortal sould.
Perhaps it would be good to remember one often-overlooked fact. All of the creeds and confessions begin with two key words -We Believe.
When we say we believe something, we are saying we don't know for certain. We are saying that here is the starting place for our thinking and praying, not the final resting place for our intellectual activity!
It is for each of us to work out our beliefs beginning with the creeds. Our current pastor has his own statement of belief as an example.click here to see it.
