United Methodist laity and clergy have formed the Second Mile Club to make contributions to smaller churches in the Lufkin district. It was organized in the early 1960's as an extension of the work of the District Board of Missions, to more adequately meet the financial needs of some of our churches.
The Second Mile Club has helped in much need repair of buildings and purchasing of equipment. It has contributed to new building campaigns in the smaller churches, and on occasion, helped in making payments on building indebtedness. It has meant the difference many times in doing or not doing a project or even the survival of some of our smaller churches.
The Second Mile Club is also committed to evangelism and growth through the establishment of new churches. Careful maintenance of smaller churches and establishment of new churches are ways that we keep the mission of Christ alive and well in deep East Texas.
Second Mile Club members have the personal joy of going beyond support of their local church, which comes first, and knowing first hand who they have helped. Through this program we are saying to our area that we
