How are the costs of living
at Lucille Raines Residence covered?
Rent received from those living at Lucille
Raines Residence provides approximately half the cost of the
program. United Methodist Women in Indiana provide monthly support.
Additional funds are received through Conference Advance Specials
(North Indiana, #31301; South Indiana #901) and donations. United
Methodists can give to Lucille Raines Residence through their
congregation or directly to the Residence, which is a 501 (c) 3
corporation; all contributions are tax deductible.
The basis of the self-help program is a
daily inventory of defects in character and the sharing of these
defects with another person. It is suggested that a part of each day
be set aside for meditation and prayer -- the end result being that
one learns to turn his/her life over to God day-by-day. The support that
grows out of the sharing forms the community that is the backbone of
the program and becomes the strength which enables recovery to
occur.
Each year two districts within the
structure of Indiana's North and South Conferences of United
Methodist Women give generously to make Christmas brighter for the
residents at Lucille Raines Residence. The money purchases two $25
gift certificates for each resident (there are 49 residents at full
capacity).
Just prior to Christmas, the Lucille Raines
Residence's board of directors places each certificate in a gift box
and lovingly wraps and tags each one so each resident will have two
gifts to open. In addition the board supplies goodie bags stuffed
with fruits, nuts, candies and cookies. For many, this is the first
real expression of love they have known at Christmas. The outpouring
of love from women, whom they will never know, overwhelms the
residents.
We accept clients through referrals from
local counseling services.
