BASIC COURSE

   The Lay Speaking Ministries Basic Course focuses on the many ways lay speakers are called to be in ministry through such things as leading, teaching, serving, proclaiming the gospel, disciple-making, storytelling and growing through personal spiritual formation.  The book introduces the stated purposes of Lay Speaking Ministries as caring, leading and communicating.  Completion of the Basic Course is required for Lay Speaker certification.  Teachers - D.S. Jay Archer, District Director of L.S.M. Holly Neal, CLS Betty Jo Forkner.

ADVANCED COURSES

    Justice in Everyday Life - A study of the United Methodist Social Principles.  Modeled after the callings of the United Methodist Social Principles, this course delves deeper into existing issues surrounding matters of faith and practices.  "Justice in Everyday Life" encourages lay speakers to examine Social Principles of the United Methodist Church.  Teacher - CLS Ed Camera.

   Lay Speakers Lead in Worship - This class is for lay speakers who occasionally or regularly lead congregations, organization, classes, or groups in worship.  This class will help church leaders better understand corporate worship, learn how to plan worship and develop practical skills.  Teacher - Rev. Steve Angus.

ADVANCED COURSE:  Pre-request for this class you must already be a local or certified lay speaker

    "FROM YOUR HEART TO THEIRS" Delivering an Effective Sermon - Move beyond the basics of public speaking and address the foundations necessary for preparing an engaging sermon.  The five parts of this experiential guide include:  types of sermons, from exegetical to topical to  children's sermons; finding the story and using the hymnal; reading the Bible aloud; communication on paper and moving beyond the paper; presentation and practice.    Teacher:  Pastor James Johnson

BASIC COURSE FOR YOUTH

   LAY SPEAKING FOR YOUTH - This basic course encourages and provides training for youth to claim the ministries to which God is calling them.  This resource offers a basic training guide for youth and youth workers to help young people claim their unique style of ministry.
