What a mighty God we serve! Just when I thought Minister’s Week was going to be uneventful and a tad boring, God changed my way of thinking. Opportunities for ministry can and will come at any time and in any place.
While at Minister’s Week, in the midst of another long session, I needed a break. I took a walk and sat down in a common area at the student union center on campus. I sat down and called my wife and as I talked on my cell phone a group of students sat down in the same area in which I sat. They were sitting down to have a Bible study in the midst of the open area in the middle of a busy commons area. It was truly an exciting thing to see, young people not afraid to show their faith in the midst of their peers. As I hung up the phone, the last of their group arrived and they were beginning their study. They looked at me, an outsider and an older adult, and yet they asked me to join. I agreed and we began to discuss prayer. The scripture they were studying was John 17 where Jesus is praying for the disciples as well as those whom the disciples would impact. It was incredible to hear the depth at which these young adults searched and felt the presence of God. They began to discuss the lifeline to God that is prayer and their need for a more dedicated, open prayer life. Opportunities for ministry come at any time and any place because we serve a mighty God!
As we begin this Lenten season and you begin to search your life and make changes I encourage you to look for those opportunities for ministry everywhere you go. Leave yourself open to the times in which you can share how God has made a difference in your life. Opportunities for ministry can happen anytime, anywhere if only you will take that chance to share your journey with others!
In His Peace, Kelly
