What is United Methodist Women?

 The United Methodist Women, also known as the UMW, is a group of women in each congregation of The United Methodist Church which is organizedfor mission. It is the successor to the societies and guilds of the seven predecessordenominations which now comprise the United Methodist Church. Because the United Methodist Church is a connectional church, the local group, called a unit, relates to district and conference organizations and to the national organization of the Women's Division of the General Board of Global Ministries. The local unit receives study materials, education in leadership, missions, community outreach and spiritual growth through these organizations.
 

What is the purpose of the United Methodist Women?

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women
whose purpose is:

•  to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ;
• to develop a creative, supportive fellowship;
• to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. (The Book of Discipline,1992, Para. 264.3)

Any woman who commits herself to the PURPOSE of the United Methodist Women and chooses to belong can be a member.
 

What is expected of a member?

A member is expected to participate in and be supportive of local and connectional activities and meetings of the organization as she is able. She can participate by attendance at meetings, giving to support mission, prayer and/or accepting leadership responsibility.
 

What can a member expect from the organization of The United Methodist Women?

A member can expect education, training and experience in understanding the organization and fulfilling the PURPOSE. She is a part of a community of women who support, nurture and encourage one another in their spiritual growth and personal development. She will have the opportunity to serve in a variety of ways. She can expect to have resources made available to her to help her participate in the organization to the fullest of her ability.

Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Women presently has one circle:

The Morning Circle which meets the third Thursday of the month at 9:30.
    They do many hands on projects for mission.
