THE MADISON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

The United Methodist Church of Madison, New York had its beginning in 1806 when Soloman and Justice Root and their wives came to Madison from Grafton, New York. They were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church and shortly after arriving in Madison, Soloman started a class in his home. Soon after, a chapel was built on the Justice Root property near Bouckville and the people called it "Root Chapel".

From the Society of Root's Chapel, The Society of Madison Village was formed. The class was constituted in1832 and consisted of nine members.

The present church edifice was built in 1840.

Many improvements, renovations and additions have been made to the original structure through the hard work of dedicated members. The church has been served by 57 pastors and operated continuously over the past 163 years.

Organizations and activities for both adults and children consist of United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men, Youth Group, Bible Study, Mission, Outreach & Evangelism, Choir and Sunday School. We also host the County Senior Citizens lunch and WIC programs. Several regular fund-raising events are held including suppers, the Annual Antique Week Sale and monthly Pancake Breakfasts.

The Madison United Methodist Church welcomes all who would come and worship with us.
