Deansboro United Methodist Church

The First Methodist Episcopal Society of Deansville (now Deansboro) was organized and incorporated May 12, 1829. In March 1837 the Society secured a lot from Thomas and Mary Dean, and proceeded to build a church. The Society was small and it required much self-denial to complete the work.

In the fall of 1883 that church was repaired and modernized and when this work was nearly completed it was destroyed by fire. With strong determination and faith it was immediately voted in favor to rebuild on the same site. In 1884 the present building was dedicated under the ministry of the Rev. W.S. Titus.

Around 1930 the Conference associated our church with the Oriskany Falls Methodist Church with a resident pastor in that community. Deansboro had their morning worship at 9:30 a.m. and the Oriskany Falls service was at 11 a.m.

On October 7, 1979 the United Methodist Church of Deansboro celebrated its 150th Anniversary of its incorporation as a Society and the 175th Anniversary of the coming of Methodism to Deansville.

In 1997 the Conference reorganized the Deansboro and Oriskany Falls United Methodist Churches into a four point charge. This charge now includes the Bouckville, Deansboro, Madison, and the Oriskany Falls United Methodist Churches. The four point charge is known as The Living Waters Parish. The Parish shares two ministers: Reverend Norma Jean Fellows and Reverend Ray Lighthall.

The Deansboro United Methodist Church has gone through many changes over the years. Being part of the Living Waters Parish has made the church a part of a larger community. The Deansboro United Methodist Church as a part of the community will continue to grow and change as does time, but the church will maintain its roots that gave it a home in a village called Deansville.
