The Church is A Refuge
by Terry Little
Webster defines a sanctuary as a place of protection
or asylum where one is immune from punishment or the law. Sometimes
a church or house of worship is called a sanctuary. I recall a few
Sundays back a rain storm came through during the worship service.
As I sat in the pew, I could hear rain hitting the roof of the Sanctuary.
The rain fell gently at first, then it suddenly grew more intense.
Thunder rumbling from somewhere far off, punctuated the rain storm.
I was glad that I was inside the church, comfortably protected from
the storm. more... |

Cookout really smoked
The
Lindsay United Methodist Church held a cookout on July 6, in conjunction
with the 100 year anniversary celebration of the city of Lindsay
Oklahoma. The church, which will be having it's own centennial celebration
later in the year, provided food and fellowship
under the big top. The cookout became a gathering point for many
returning alum's that were in town for a Lindsay High School reunion.
Old acquaintances were renewed and new
friendships
were made under the UMC tent. Find out more about the history of
the Lindsay UMC on the site's history page

A United Methodist Moment
The United Methodist Church has a long history of concern for social
justice. It's members have often taken forthright positions on controversial
issues involving Christian principles. Early Methodists expressed
their opposition to the slave trade, to smuggling, and to the cruel
treatment of prisoners.
