The Limestone United Methodist church offers Sunday School classes for all ages (pre-school-adult) on Sunday mornings beginning at 9:30 from mid-Sept through the first of June. We use materials from the United Methodist publishing house, Cokesbury.
For the 2008-2009 year the Sunday School program offered added opportunities for fellowship, fun and learning. The annual Advent Festival was held again at the beginning of the Advent Season. This time offers music, crafts and supper. In March, for the first time, a Mardi Gras event was held which was highlighted with Christian aspects of the festival. There was a parade, crafts and a meal served. One of the most delightful times in the year is the annual Easter Egg Hunt, which this past Easter, saw more than 50 children searching for more than 500 eggs.
We have a dedicated staff of volunteers which make all this possible.
The Sunday School also encourages adults to donate to their Mile of Pennies, which is a mission. This year the money raised –more than $200–will help the cost of VBS programming and a donation will be made to the Homeless Shelter in Presque Isle.
The concluding activity for this year’s programming with be a church wide picnic held on June 7 following worship. We invite anyone visiting this website to call the church office at 207-325-3870 so your questions may be answered.
The Limestone United Methodist Youth Group has been active again this year. There have been 11 members who have been very faithful. To help in our stewardship of heating costs, the youth agreed to meet on Sundays following worship. That means that these young people have given more than 3 hours on a Sunday to their faith development. That means a lot! And this is quite a witness for those who feel one hour is too much to give.
The youth group this year held a blanket drive and collected more than 50 blankets to distribute to homes in the area. As homeowners tried to cut heating costs, the blankets were used to wrap up in, added to beds or used to cover doors and windows to cut down on drafts.
The youth group took one Saturday, came to the church kitchen and prepared 3 different soups which were then delivered to the Homeless Shelter in Presque Isle.
The youth group held a ‘rock-a-thon’ and raised enough money to purchase a peace pole which will be ‘planted’ this summer on the front lawn of the church. If you want to know more about this world-wide project visit www.peacepoleproject.org.
In addition to all this the youth clean and disinfect the nursery rooms during the year and assist in nursery care during our worship times.
The group is open to students in grade 6 and older and welcomes all.
The youth group has been working on church graffiti. That's correct! The walls to our no-stair entrance are no longer stark white. Verses of Scripture have been added in colorful inks. The youth have also left the legacy of handprints and will be inviting the younger children in our congregation to add their handprints as well.
On Pentecost Sunday the youth will be flying kites as a reminder of the winds of Pentecost. |
