| HOME | Formally organized on September 13, 1852, the Big
Plain Church (formerly known as California) had been meeting for some
years in homes and the Bales schoolhouse. The first frame
building was erected at the time of organization. It was replaced
by a brick building in 1886. Sometime between 1880 and 1882, the
church became part of the Lilly Chapel charge. In 1911, the Big
Plain Church became part of the Derby Charge, but returned to the Lilly
Chapel Charge in 1932.
The Spring Hill Sabbath School (the original name of the Georgesville Church) was organized in 1868 and met in the Montz schoolhouse. Dyer Chapel was constructed in 1874 and named in honor of William Dyer, chief promoter of the church. In 1883, Dyer Chapel became part of the Lilly Chapel Charge. A Methodist Church was organized in 1828 in the community of Gilroy (now Lilly Chapel) and met in the homes of members until a frame church was erected in1850. Built on land donated by Wesley Lilly, the church was called Lilly Chapel Methodist Church. In 1887, the frame church was replaced by the present brick structure. |

In 1980, the three churches united to become know as Trinity United Methodist Church, located in the Lilly Chapel building. The congregation brings a rich tradition, faith, and experience to their united efforts to reach out to the residents of the three communities in the name of Jesus Christ. "May our church go forward and its future be a bring shining light, not only for our immediate community, but for the whole wide world." Quote from History of the Lilly Chapel Charge Methodist Churches by F. P. Fitzgerald, M.D., 1946. |
