Be a
Helping Hand
United Methodist Community
Services is an agency of the Board of Christian Presence in God’s World, an
outreach arm of the Baltimore-Washington Conference. It was started by Rev. Don
Llewellyn who still serves as its Coordinator.
We have an office here at LHUMC
which is staffed Monday through Friday mornings by volunteers. We receive phone
calls from persons in the greater
Baltimore
area who need assistance. Requests include help with rent or utility bills as
well as for food and clothing. Working from a directory of area churches as well
as a computer database, we try to find churches or other agencies in their
community that offer the assistance that they need. All contacts are by
telephone and we do not provide direct assistance. There are three service
centers in located in churches in the city that do offer direct assistance as
funds are available.
Volunteers are asked to spend 2
to 3 hours one day a week answering the phone and providing phone numbers to
callers. Substitutes are always needed. If you would be interested in
volunteering for this very worthwhile program, please call: Rev. Don Llewellyn
at 410-987-7723 or Jean Irons at 410-691-6363.
