Our Missionaries
LHUMC has been a Global Mission Partner church since 1994. We have supported missionaries in Zaire, Africa; Unalaska, Alaska, and Central Asia. Additionally, we have been supporting a Partner in Mission (PIM), which is a person who serves in his or her own country. Currently, our missionaries are located in Central Asia and Viama, Brazil. Since the Spring of 2001, we have been supporting Suzanne Porter presently working in Central Asia. She is a member of Reisterstown United Methodist Church in Reisterstown, MD. She is working in a maternal child health program in a village where she is helping to provide health care to children and teaching community health programs to women in villages. Our PIM is the director of the Susana Wesley House in Viama, Brazil. This is a Methodist Church program that began in 1994 and has provided shelter and guidance to more than 500 girls from 8 to 18 years of age. These young girls are victims of any kind of violence and sexual abuse in their homes. Our
annual covenant commitment to support two missionaries is $3,500; $2,500 in
support of Suzanne Porter and $1,000 towards support of the Director of the
Susana Wesley Safe House. As of
August 2003, we have only received $608 for Suzanne Porter and $808 for Brazil.
We ask you consider a second-mile giving to help us reach our goal for
2003. Being in mission is the responsibility of every Christian, to love as Jesus loved, to live as Jesus lived, to walk as Jesus walked. God's mission is global in focus and local in expression. |
