Frequently Asked Questions Q: Where do I park A: There is diagonal on-street parking in the front of the building. In addition, there is a lot behind the building, a lot between the two parsonages (just East on School Lane from the church), and additional parking on Linthicum Elementary School's lot on Sunday mornings. There are handicapped spaces imediately in front of the sanctuary. Q: What do I do when I first get there? A: If you come for our 8:30 service, come into the sanctuary. If you are coming for Sunday School at 9:40, come in the end door of the East wing (to the right as you are facing the front of the church), go down the steps and go into the first door on the right. This is our Sunday School office. They will help you find an appropriate class for any family member. If you come for our 11:00 service, come early to the Fellowship Hall (September through May) and have some refreshments or go directly to the sanctuary Q: Will there be greeters or others on hand to help newcomers know what to do? A: Yes. Greeters will meet you at the front door of the sanctuary for the 8:30 and 11:00 services. Identify yourself as a visitor and they will be happy to help you in any way. Q: Is your order of worship easy to follow? A: Yes. The morning's bulletin will give all of the information you need to participate in the worship service. Q: How long does worship last? A: The worship service is usually one hour. On special occasions, it may run slightly longer. Q: How long are the sermons? A: Usually about 20 minutes. Q: Will I be singled out as a guest? A: No. Q: Am I welcome to commune? A: If you believe that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior, you are welcome to participate in communion. We serve communion on the first Sunday of every month. Q: What kinds of hymns do you sing? What instrument do you use? A: We primarily sing hymns from the United Methodist Hymnal which has a good mixture of traditional and more contemporary hymns. Hymn accompaniment is usually done on our Moeller Pipe Organ. We do use other instruments for special music and on Easter Sunday, we have a brass quintet. Q: Is the building accessible for physically challenged people? A: The sanctuary has a ramp on the right side of the building leading into it. The West wing (to the left of the sanctuary) has a ramp leading into it. We are working on plans to make our whole building more accessible to physically challenged people. There are handicapped parking spaces imediately in front of the sanctuary. Q: What is your Sunday School like? A: We have Sunday School for all ages including three classes for adults. The best way to locate the appropriate Sunday School class for your children or yourself is to visit the Sunday School office. To get to the Sunday School office, enter the end door of the East wing (to the right as you are facing the front of the church), go down the steps and go into the first door on the right. They will be happy to help you find a class. Q: Is there a nursery or other activities for small children? A: There is a nursery which is staffed during the 11:00 service. There is also a class for children up to the second grade during the 11:00 service. We also provide children's bulletins and crayons for those children attending the worship service. Q: What's your seating like? A: We have cushioned pews on each side of the sanctuary and in the balcony. Q: Is the church air conditioned? A: The sanctuary is air conditioned. Two of the three adult Sunday School rooms are air conditioned as well as the cribbery and office. Q: Will I be expected to give money? A: As a part of the worship service, we give our gifts to God through the church. Offering plates are passed in the congregation, but contributing is optional. Q: Are there people my age? A: Yes! Our congregation has members of all ages. Q: If I choose to join LHUMC, what do I do? A: Contact one of the pastors or the church office. They will enroll you in a new members class. These classes are held about every two months, and there are three sessions of about one hour each.
