Americans
Greet News of War with Special Prayers
As the first
missiles hit Baghdad, some anti-war protests continued here, but for
many Americans the debate changed. It was no longer whether to go to
war, but how to minimize the damage -- military, humanitarian,
diplomatic, and even interfaith. We have special reports coming up.
Across
the nation -- and across the religious spectrum -- Americans greeted
news of war with special prayer services. Both supporters and opponents
of the war prayed for the safety of U.S. troops and of Iraqi civilians.
Many houses of worship are staying open for prayer during the duration
of the war.

Web
Site Facilitates Prayer Requests for U.S. Troops
Finally,
there is a Web site called www.presidentialprayerteam.org
that is encouraging prayers for American troops and their families. In
just a few days, the organizers say they've received 88,000 prayer
requests for U.S. troops. Three hundred eighty thousand have adopted
military persons and their families, and promised to pray for them every
day.
