The first step is to complete our membership class. It's called UM 101, which is short
for United Methodism 101. At this class you will learn more about our church and our
United Methodist heritage.
This class also is called "Coffee With the Pastor" because the pastor
leads it and serves coffee (and other beverages for those who don't
drink coffee). The atmosphere is casual and relaxed.
You should attend this class even if you are transferring your membership
from another United Methodist church.
The pastor will share with you why we believe that a commitment to the
church goes hand-in-hand with a commitment to Christ. He'll also
talk about our membership expectations.
When you are received into church membership, you will:
Profess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord (by answering "I do" to several questions and affirming the Apostle's Creed).
Be baptized (if you have not been baptized before).
Accept our membership covenant (to faithfully participate in the church's ministries by your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service).
New members also are strongly encouraged to attend
a SHAPE seminar. This session will help you discover your personal
ministry profile and ways you can serve God through the church.
Once you've defined your ministry SHAPE, you'll know more about what
ministries God is calling you to and how the church can help you do
them.
You also are invited to attend a GROW class, where you can learn more
about the lifelong process of Christian discipleship. GROW shows you
how to mature in your relationship with God through worship, prayer,
fellowship, discipleship and service.
You'll learn more about Bible study and be introduced to our C.L.A.S.S.
system of small groups. And you'll be encouraged to participate in
the various in-depth Bible studies that are scheduled throughout the
year.
C.L.A.S.S. stands for Christian Life And Support Societies. Members of these
small groups meet weekly to pray, apply the Scriptures to daily
living and hold one another accountable for growth in faith and
practice.
Once you've experienced the warmth and support of a Class, you'll
wonder how you ever got by without one.
