Vision Statement
Under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, it is the vision of the LaMoine River District to participate actively in God’s inclusive community of hope: the reign of justice, generosity, and joy for all people, especially children, elderly, and those in poverty.
Mission Statement
As a part of a connectional church, our mission is to become a district in which every congregation is a healthy, growing, spiritually-vital, risk-taking center for making and equipping disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our world.
Welcome to the LaMoine River District
The La Moine River District, the largest geographic district of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference, is a sprawling 17-county expanse of west central Illinois formed by 94 local churches and seven conference/denominational ministries. The district is bounded by the Mississippi River on the west, Illinois Routes 78 and 4 on the east, US Route 136 across the north, and the Jersey/Madison county line and Illinois Route 108 on the south. This western curve of the state has a rich tradition of United Methodism with heritage that includes spiritual leaders like pioneer circuit riders Peter Cartwright and Peter Akers.
Many of the congregations are part of cooperative ministries. The Christian disciples who make up these congregations have a strong commitment to be in mission at home in Illinois, across the United States, and around the world. There are seven ministry agencies of the conference and denomination based in the La Moine River District. Chaddock, a school, home, and outreach to youth and their families in Quincy; MacMurray College in Jacksonville, a four-year liberal arts college; Sunset, a retirement and nursing facility in Quincy; Jensen Woods, a camping and retreat facility near Mt. Sterling; Nueva Vida, a Hispanic/Latino outreach ministry in Beardstown; Jacksonville Deaf Faith Community, a congregation for deaf and multipi-handicapped persons in Jacksonville; and the Commission on Archives and History of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference located in Pfeiffer Library at MacMurray College.
Rev. Randall L. Robinson is the conference superintendent appointed by Bishop Sharon A. Brown Christopher to serve La Moine River District. He has served local churches of various sized since 1980. He lives in Jacksonville with his spouse, Laura. They have two adult daughters, Rachael and Sarah.
