Sisters in Spirit Book Discussion Group

September 10, 2008

Did you know there is a new book discussion group for women?  This interest was discovered by women who have been attending events held by Sisters In Spirit.  Those interested are sharing a leadership approach, with a woman leading the discussion on the month her book choice is scheduled to be read.

Krisann Byrne-Scheri is leading the discussion on the book "The Mermaid Chair", by Sue Monk Kidd at 4:30 PM on September 10th.

If you would like to participate, please be responsible for getting your own copy of the book from the library (written or audio), from a used bookstore, or borrowed from a friend.  If you have a computer you may be able to find a used copy quite cheaply on Amazon.  If you own a copy, please share it.  For more information, call Krisann at 524-2411.

Children’s Choir

Children’s choir is starting the fall season on Monday, Sept. 8 at 6:00 - 6:45 PM in the Fireside Room.  All young people are welcome.  Drivers – come and bring a book or have a social time in the library!  Revs. Polhemus and Wood Parrish will be leading the choir.

Lakes Region Woodwind Quintet Concert

Sept. 14 at 3:00 PM at the church

This is the Quintet’s first concert ion the Lakes Region, but they have been playing throughout New England for the past ten years.  The members are professionals and teachers – and you may know some of them!  They are; Doris Henney – flute, Debbi Gibson – clarinet, Kenda Corcoran – oboe, Robin Jackman – French horn, and Nancy Goldenhar – bassoon.  They will present a varied program of works by Franz Danzi, Jean Lefebvre, Robert Washburn, Rogers and Hammerstein, and George Gershwin.

Donation:  $ 7.00 for adults and $ 5.00 for students

Junior Girl Scouts Need a Volunteer

Joyce Keyser is looking for someone to volunteer to help lead the Junior Girl Scout Troop 12042.  This troop will be meeting in our church every other week.  The girls are ages 9 – 12.  This is a great opportunity for someone who loves children to help our young girls learn to be a productive member of society – helping them to grow by learning leadership skills, responsibility and exploring many areas of life.

The volunteer(s) would be asked to help with some planning, and attending the meeting every other week.  During fall product sales and cookie sales they may be asked to assist with those areas as well.

If you would be willing to help in any way, contact Joyce Keyser (527-1873 or 524-3289).

Note on Parking

Many of you have noticed that the Trustees have created an area of expanded diagonal parking on the circular drive along the west/playground side of the church.  Please do not park on the pavement or the grass along the road coming into the church from 11A (now called Wesley Way).

Thank you.

New Ringers are Sought!

We hope to start a new handbell choir this year, practicing on a night other than Monday – or during the day!  Experienced ringers are meeting on Monday evenings at 7:00 PM, by invitation.  New ringers will have a new choir that will teach the basics of ringing, counting, music reading, and which is your right or left hand!  When experience is gained, you can move into the Monday group.  Please let us know your interest with the form below.  Children are also welcome to the new choir.

Benefit Gospel Concert

Join us for a benefit concert Friday, September 19, 2008 at 7:30 PM to support the Mission Committee's Kavale Fund and African Missions.  The concert will feature familiar faces and music as well as some new African beats.  Participants will be Betty Welch, Paul & Ellen Stickney, Karen Jordan, The Men's Gospel Quartet—Timeless, and Jonathan Kavale and friends.

Admission will be a free will offering, with 100% of the proceeds to go the Mission Committee.  Please grab your friends and neighbors and come to enjoy this evening of fun, love and joy, as we celebrate God's love for us all, and respond to his call to help those less fortunate than we are.
