As a part of the Natural Church Development (NCD) process the eighth meeting of the Church Health Team (CHT) was held on Monday, May 19. The CHT has now completed the survey and analysis phases, written goals and is now beginning the implementation of those goals. For the purposes of realistic accomplishment, five programs have been agreed upon for implementation and ALL CONGREGATION MEMBERS are being asked to look at these five areas for the purposes of helping and participation. The overall purpose of these programs is to improve upon the area of Passionate Spirituality both in a congregational sense as well as in a personal way but not to replace ongoing programs or activities. With God's help, these will provide exciting opportunities for us all to enrich our spiritual lives and more strongly reflect our love and passion for God through Jesus Christ. An outline of these programs will be posted on the bulletin board in the Gathering Place for all to peruse. The leaders of each program will be indicated along with a place for you to sign up to help. More detail will also be provided at each service as the programs and activities "kick in". The five programs are: Model Bible Study: Opportunities will be provided during selected church services to participate in a model Bible study. The hope is that more people will become comfortable studying the scriptures while working ingroups and feel inspired to participate in future Bible studies. What is SPRC/PPRC and who are they? The Staff Parish Relations Committee or Pastor Parish Relations Committee (SPRC/PPRC) functions as the primary support system for the pastor and the vital link between the pastor and the congregation. The key operative words are: openness, sensitivity, support, encouragement, clarity, confidentiality, and accountability. Persons who serve on the SPRC or PPRC must be full members of the church in good standing, be attentive to their spiritual disciplines, be able to reflect theologically and biblically, and have the competency to carry out the varied duties of the committee. One member shall be a young adult and one member may be a youth. These are the necessary criteria given in the Book of Discipline. (259.2) Key Functions of SPRC/PPRC: 1. To encourage, strengthen, nurture, support, and respect the pastor and staff and their family(s). 2. To promote unity in the church. 3. To confer with and counsel the pastor and staff on the matters pertaining to the effectiveness of ministry, relationships with the congregation; conditions that may impede the effectiveness of ministry; and to interpret the nature and function of the ministry. 4. To confer with, consult, and counsel the the pastor and staff on matters pertaining to priorities in the uses of gifts, skills, and time and priorities for the demands and effectiveness of the mission and ministry of the congregation. 5. To provide evaluation at least annually for the use for the pastor and staff in an ongoing effective ministry. 6. To communicate and interpret to the congregation the nature and functions of the United Methodist Church . 7. To develop and approve written job descriptions . . 8. Consult with the pastor and staff concerning continuing education and spiritual renewal . 9. To enlist, interview, evaluate, review, and recommend annually to the charge conference lay preachers and persons for candidacy for ordained ministry . . The members of your SPRC Committee currently serving are: Susan Mihok & Debbie Taylor Co-Chairs, Ed Gilsky, Jerri Gilsky, Debbie Dominicci, Rich Morgan, Ruth Lalevee, Tyrone Franklin, Craig McLennan, Chris Peters and Stephan Szardenings.
