From the Wesley Nurse
I
am hoping you are all getting off to a great start in 2010, with plenty of
motivation and inspiration to make this the best year ever!
You
may be wondering why the Wesley Nurse is always talking about exercise and
nutrition programs.
Well,
partly because it is our job to promote health and wellness in the community to
keep participants from
Fact: Together,
lack of exercise and poor diet are the second-largest underlying cause of death
in the United States. (Smoking is the #1 cause.)
~Exercise: A
Guide for the National Institute on Aging
Regular
physical activity and exercise help to:
Increase strength
Improve balance
Increase flexibility
Increase endurance
Improve mental focus
Decrease feelings of depression
Prevent heart disease, hypertension, stroke and
diabetes
Improve arthritis symptoms
Increase energy
I have started offering fitness programs again at the Lakehills Civic
Center on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-10am and am still having Yoga on
Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Wesley Nurse office from 8:30-9:30am.
This month on the 23rd, I will have a program at the Lakehills Civic Center from 6 pm-8 pm called
Celebrate A Healthy Heart-A Homemade Evening. We will have homemade soup,
bread and other nutritious samples to share, with education on preparing simple
healthy meals at home. There will
also be singing, storytelling and other methods of “homemade” entertainment.
I look forward to seeing you!
Blessings,
Kathy Bates RN
