Adult Education Mission

"To work with leaders in fulfilling the church’s mission of helping persons become disciples of Jesus Christ, and to address the concerns and conditions of adults in our church and community so that the adults may grow in their understanding of themselves and the Christian faith, and that their quality of life may be improved."

REAL LIFE, REAL ISSUES
SUNDAY MORNINGS

(EARLY LAUNCH!!)

Beginning September 9, 2001
9:15 am

Whether you attend Worship at 8:30 or the 10:00 am Service, you can still participate in a new adventure in Adult Education beginning September 16!

Our church is part of our world. How do you integrate your spiritual life with current events? You come to the Sunday Adult Education discussions. We will be discussing moral, ethical, and legal issues frankly and candidly, led and directed by our own Geoffrey T. Glass. We hope to examine critically the issues from all sides, which may require us to question our own opinions. It will be freewheeling, thought-provoking, animated, and, most of all, fun.

Keeping order in our world.

Justice. Punishment. Victim’s rights.
Why do we do these things we do?

Self Interest vs. Scarce Resources.
     Lax Morals or Greater Empowerment.
Motivations that make a difference.

CHRISTIAN BELIEVER
WEDNESDAY EVENINGS

Beginning September 19, 2001
7:00 pm

Knowing God with Heart and Mind
Led by Aerin Bender-Stone and Ginny Wheeler

Revelation. Scripture. God. Providence. Covenant. Sin. Grace. Salvation. Jesus Christ. Atonement. Faith. Holy Spirit. Trinity. Sacraments. Worship. Sanctification. Christian Life. Hope. Resurrection. Eternal Life.

Here is a unique opportunity to know more of the central teachings of the Christian faith, to explore the connections between doctrine and Scripture, between believing and living, to wrestle with some of the questions of belief Christians have wrestled with for the last 2000 years and to be equipped for living faithfully and passing on the faith to others.

Groups consist of twelve members and a leader. Each participant is responsible for reading and taking notes on Scripture and assigned readings in the book of readings and weekly participation in the group study. Each participant receives a reading package that includes a study manual and a book of reading from Christian sources, both ancient and modern, on the doctrine of the Christian faith. The cost for the reading materials is $50.

This study of the classical doctrines of the Christian faith aims at presenting, explaining, and interpreting Christian doctrine as the basic teaching of the church to the end that informed believing leads to committed discipleship.

Register early, using the registration slip  attached to this brochure.

DISCIPLE
WEDNESDAY EVENINGS

Disciple is an approach to Bible Study that emphasizes disciplined reading of and listening to Scripture. It results in biblically nourished persons committed to live as disciples. Each participant makes a commitment to daily preparation and weekly attendance and full participation in the group study sessions. Disciple aims at transformation, and not just information.
