UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

April 14, 2004

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

FROM THE PASTOR....     What a WONDERFUL Easter Sunday!   Things just could not have gone better.  Both services were well attended and music was extraordinary.  Everyone was friendly and looking good.  But most importantly, the spirit of the Risen Christ was prevalent everywhere.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if that’s what happened every Sunday!?!  Of course, you realize that is our goal.  As we’ve talked about our next set of goals and objectives, that’s exactly what we have talked about.  And now more than ever we need to be aware of those goals and objectives and not just HOPE they happen by default.  We must consider it our spirit-led, Christ-centered duty to work toward a church that is reaching out and offering Christ in every way.

Easter is very inspiring as it shows us what can be.  Claiming resurrection to be a vital force in our lives currently means we really claim the possibilities and work to make them realities.  We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, because Christ has first done the greatest thing of all - demonstrated power over sin and death.  There is nothing that can hold us back, unless we ourselves decide to not be a part of the process.

Easter is inspiring by giving us real hope for whatever we want or need in tomorrow.  Whether that’s more people in the church pew and more money for the church budget, or perhaps more people working as Christ’s ambassadors and missionaries in the community around us, EASTER SAYS ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.  More people making commitments to Christ;  more people finding their place in ministry;  more people growing in their personal relationship to Christ;  more plans to move forward in Kingdom building;  all are possible as demonstrated in EASTER.

Personal issues are possibilities, too.  Is your financial situation out of control?  Easter brings hope for you.  Do you suffer with an addiction or destructive habit?  Easter brings hope for you.  Is your marriage or some other personal relationship not what you want it to be? Easter means hope in all things.

I hope Easter comes alive to you in every way.  I hope the “ordinary” activities that we have every week at church make life “extraordinary” for you.  I hope the plans we have to grow challenge and inspire you to get on board with God’s plan for your life.  Be watching for ideas we present in our long range plan (we‘ll be  publishing them in the newsletter and bulletin), and think about how they can challenge you to spiritual growth and Easter living in each day.

WHAT IS GENERAL CONFERENCE? When the United Methodist Church’s top legislative body meets this spring in Pittsburgh, nearly 1,000 delegates from around the world will once again speak to issues of the day and set direction for the denomination.
Convened every four years, the General Conference is the only entity that speaks for the entire 10-million member denomination. The 2004 assembly will meet April 27-May 7 in Pittsburgh.
Last week we talked about all the things that happen at General Conference.  One thing we didn’t mention in the newsletter is that there are 2 official delegates to the big event from here at
Jeffersontown  UMC!     Our own Rhoda Peters and Jeanette Westerfield will both be serving in the delegation from Kentucky.  Rhoda, of course, is elected as a clergy delegate and Jeanette as a lay delegate.  Elections were held last year at Annual Conference in Bowling Green.   Most certainly our church will be well represented at General Conference, but we can also rest assured that Kentucky will be well represented with the entire delegation.

At General Conference, Rhoda and Jeanette will be making decisions about the direction of the United Methodist Church for the next 4 years.  They will be looking at mission priorities, church structure, our church’s response to social issues, and how  the United Methodist Church can be effective for Christ all around the entire world.

Please keep this event, and our delegates, in your prayers.  This is a very critical, formative time for our denomination.

For additional information on General Conference, visit "http://www.gc2004.org/" online.

FROM YOUTH PASTOR - Good Morning there Agents of the Lord, I hope that all of you have sufficiently recovered from your Easter weekends.  Well, as you eat your ham omelets for the next two weeks to get rid of your leftovers, keep in mind that He has RISEN INDEED!  We have been the greatest gift of all through his life, death, and resurrection- so the least we can do is enjoy the omelets while we have them.

In other news, the new youth schedule, has been announced in letters home, the newsletter, and by word of mouth, will begin this Sunday, April 18.  If you have any questions about this new schedule, please let me know.

Upcoming Announcements:  In the next week or two you I will be putting information into this newsletter that will provide more exact details of this summer’s mission trips and Lake Junaluska trips, including cost to you and information on the history and ministry of each location.  Please look forward to those.

Barnabas Team: How’s it going?  How are your contacts going? If you need anything, please let me know.
