The Joint Commission, founded over forty years ago, collaboratively works with the United Methodist Church of Mexico to support churches on both sides of the border.

The Joint Commission was founded as a grass-roots effort born of a pastor in the Imperial Valley and the Northwest Annual Conference in Mexico to foster church-to-church support.  This continues today with support in repairing churches, supporting seminary students with scholarships, community projects, and support for pastors.

A new effort for the Joint Commission is the Border Ministry.  Churches in Mexico have found themselves having to provide support for deportees from the United States who are returned to Mexico from the United States.  They arrive with virtually nothing more than the clothes that they are wearing.  Food, a place to stay, medical services, job search assistance and financial help to return to their home in Mexico are some of the services they require.  Methodist churches in Mexico are working hard to meet their needs.  Food and financial support are critical to help with this human crisis.

We have discovered that these issues not only exist in Mexico, but in the United States, as well.  We are working hard to find ways to respond to these needs on both sides of the border.

The Joint Commission also provides work teams to work on both church and community projects.  The summer youth work teams last for one week and take place at the end of July through early August each year.  Other groups can be arranged at any time during the year.

Our past president, Rev. Wesley Neal, stated: “While we have grown and changed, the heart of our ministry is where it began, in the spiritual bond we have as Methodist Christians across the border.”

We, at the Joint Commission, are anxious to share about our ministry.  Please contact us to arrange a visit.  We will be glad to visit your church and give a presentation about our work.  Please call to arrange a time or to gather further information about our work at (909)793-5171.

More information about the Joint Commission

We praise the Lord for your faithfulness in the ministry of the Joint Commission. Together we have been working for 40 years, bringing support and communication between the Cal-Pac Conference and the Mexican Methodist Church in the Northwest Conference.

The Joint Commission continues to facilitate the process for churches on both sides of the border to be united in Mission. There are new building programs and new dreams that we can be a part of in the expansion of the Gospel in the Baja California Area.
