Sunday School for children, youth and young adults at 9:30 AM.

After School Homework Club (Tutorial Program) held on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons, 3:15 PM to 5:45 PM. Serving students from Early Elementary thru 8th Grade.

• Our Tutorial Program serves students in the community, Grades 1 through 8. Each student receives personal instruction geared toward their needs. Students have shown dramatic progress when they consistently apply what is taught in the program.

• The program served an average of 25 children (grades 1-8) from the church and community each Saturday morning. This program now operates on weekdays.

• The program has expanded to the point that the church had to build additional space to hold students.

• Attendance increases dramatically during preparation for citywide testing periods.

• Students have made dramatic progress thanks to our help

Children's Ministries

• Our children’s ministries serve children through age 12.
• Three classes of our Church School are devoted to specific phases in children’s development.
• Children are actively engaged in all areas of the life of the church.
• Children participate in worship through Children’s Moments and serving as Acolytes and Ushers.
• Children’s scholastic achievements are recognized at our Annual Student Recognition Day.

Youth & Young Adult Ministry

• The Youth and Young Adults  continue to minister in our church and community in several ways, including serving on the Praise Team, performing dramatic skits in worship, ministering through Liturgical/Praise Dance, participation in the worship services and programs of the church.
• Our Youth and Young Adult groups have ministered with churches of all denominations throughout  New York City, and beyond, as well as participating in district and conference events, such as the BMCR (Black Methodist for Church Renewal) Annual Weekend.
• The Youth and Young Adults organize several educational, spiritual and fundraising events in our church throughout each year.
• Several Young Adults are now serving as Lay Speakers in our congregation and in other churches as requested.

YOUTH & YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY MISSION STATEMENT

To grow spiritually and morally, and become responsible productive adults in our church and communities-applying the tenets of the United Methodist Church-we are committed:

• To be the beacons of truth for the betterment of the church, ourselves, and others;
• To demonstrate God’s love as we nurture the children of the church and community and extend care and respect for our elders;
• To mentor our “youth in need” and help to keep them on the path of Christian living and spiritual growth;
• To permit our faith to allow God Only to be our guide and express through us as we dare to go for our goal.

The Praise and Worship Ministry ministers for the first half-hour of most worship services in John Wesley. They are always looking for more willing people to serve in this ministry. Rehearsals are held on select Friday evenings as scheduled.

Praise Dance (United Dancers of Praise) - Sundays, 2:00 PM

The United Dancers of Praise is the praise dance ministry of John Wesley UMC. They rehearse every Sunday at 2:00 PM. The troupe has ministered in churches and setting throughout New York City and beyond. While it is a youth & young adult-driven ministry, it is open to people of all ages. We encourage anyone who wants to use their whole body to praise God to join.

The United Dancers of Praise generally minister at least in two of our worship services in any given month, generally on the Second and Fifth Sundays, and whenever else their ministry is requested in our worship services or at a church event.
