Worship Services
Our worship services consist of Blended
& Traditional services with contemporary and traditional music, Praise Dance and
singing Praise and Worship.
Each
service has a strong emphasis on the love and power of Jesus Christ.
We strive to make sure
all age groups, from children to seniors are fully incorporated into the worship
experience.
Members of the church
fully participate and lead in litanies and prayers during worship services.
Also, we dedicate a time early in the worship service to have a Children's
Moment, to demonstrate that "Our Children and Youth are Important to us."
Worship Services—Sundays, 10:45 AM
- Each worship service is begun with a period of praise and
worship, with the exception of the first Sunday of each month.
- Holy Communion is observed on the 1st Sunday of
each month. The United Methodist Church has an open table. Any Christian
may take communion in this church.
- The second Sunday of each month is generally dedicated to Contemporary Worship and
Praise to serve the needs of younger people and those seeking a
relationship with Jesus Christ in a new way.
- Baptisms generally take place on the third Sunday of a
month when requested. Since Baptism is a sacrament of the United Methodist
Church, families and godparents are required to meet with our pastor for
counseling prior to any Infant Baptism.
- Worship on the fourth Sunday of each month is dedicated to Anointing and
Healing of the sick.
- When there is a fifth Sunday in a month, the Youth and
Young Adults lead the worship service on that day.
- Everyone is invited to join us for fellowship and
refreshments after worship services.
Prayer Services—Wednesdays, 2:30 PM
- Each week, this opportunity is offered to gather in
prayer before God to lift up the concerns of people, the church and the
community.
Chancel Choir—Wednesdays, 7 PM
- Our Chancel Choir sings a range of music including anthems, hymns,
spirituals and gospel. They minister in our worship services three weeks per
month.
- The Chancel Choir also ministers in two concerts during the
Lent/Easter and Advent/Christmas seasons.
Praise & Worship Ministry—select Fridays, 7 PM
- The Praise and Worship Ministry ministers for the first
half-hour of most worship services in John Wesley. They are always looking for
more willing people to serve in this ministry.
Special Worship Services
- We offer additional worship services for special occasions such as major
Christian holidays, and also celebrate Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day,
and Lent/Easter (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter
Sunrise) with six of our sister United Methodist Churches in the Central
Brooklyn Area. All seven congregations of the Central Brooklyn Cluster
(Bethany, Bethel, Bushwick Parish, Janes, Newman Memorial, Union and John
Wesley) worship together at those times. The proceeds from the combined services are given to
three ministries (Anchor House, the United Interfaith Action Council, and
Women's Advocate Ministry)
that our churches collectively help support in the New York City area.
