Our Ministries

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

-Matthew 25:35-36

As a church, we believe in fulfilling the great commission of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In so doing these are some of the ministries we offer to the community at large:

Our Pastoral Ministry provides:

  • Pre-marital counseling
  • Family counseling and referral services

Justice for Our Neighbors:

  • Immigration ministry offering direct assistance towards documentation, which includes: family reunions; citizenship, court appearances and advocacy. These services are FREE of charge, and available to all. Making an appointment through the church office is necessary.

Adult Ministries:

  • Sunday School for adults of all ages at 9:15 AM.
  • Bible Study & Breakfast every 2nd and 4th Sunday at 8 AM. Sponsored by the Men of John Wesley UMC.
  • Chancel Choir — Wednesdays, 7 PM
  • Praise & Worship Ministry — select Fridays, 7:30 PM
  • Men’s Fellowship (United Methodist Men) — 2nd Sunday of each month after worship.
  • Women’s Fellowship (United Methodist Women) — 2nd Saturday of each month at 12:30 PM

Our Ministries to Children, Youth and Young Adults:

  • Sunday School for children, youth and young adults of at 9:15 AM.
  • Summer Vacation Bible School, 10 AM to 2 PM. Weekdays during the months of July and August.
  • Tutorial Program held on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons, 3:15 PM to 5:45 PM. Serving students from Early Elementary thru 8th Grade.
  • Youth & Young Adult Ministry — Sundays, after worship.
  • Girl Scouts — serving girls up to age 17. Fridays, 6:30—8:00 PM
  • Boy Scouts — serving boys, ages 11 to 17. Fridays, 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Praise Dance (United Dancers of Praise) — Sundays, 2:00 PM

Outreach Ministries:

  • Soup Kitchen — Thursdays, 12:30 PM
  • Food Pantry — Tuesdays, 1 PM—2 PM
  • Senior & Disabled Wellness Program — Wednesdays & Fridays, 10 AM — 2 PM.
  • FREE Immigration Clinic — held on the 2nd Monday of the Month. Please call ahead, space is limited.

Community Involvement:

  • Active participation in the Quincy Street Good Neighbor Block Association.
  • Active member of East Brooklyn Congregations (EBC)
  • Active involvement in the 79th Precinct Council
  • Our pastor and several members of the church represent John Wesley UMC on several boards and organizations in the community, the Long Island West District and the New York Annual Conference.

Worship Services:

  • Divine Worship—Sundays, 10:45 AM
  • Holy Communion is observed on the 1st Sunday of each month. Anyone who knows Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior may take communion in this church.
  • The second Sunday of each month is dedicated to Contemporary Worship and Praise to serve the needs of younger people and those seeking a relationship with Jesus Christ in a new way.
  • Worship on the fourth Sunday of each month is dedicated to Anointing and Healing.
  • Worship on the Fifth Sunday of months where there is one, are dedicated to Youth and Young Adults in our congregation.
  • Prayer Services—Wednesdays, 2:30 PM

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’”
