November 2009 Events

11/1:
Worship Service (All Saints' Day), 10:45 AM.

This will be a Service of Holy Communion. Our pastor, Rev. Pauline Wardell-Sankoh will bring the Word. We set this Sunday aside to remember those church members, friends and family who have passed on in the previous year.

Children's Church/Child Care, 11:30 AM.

11/8:
Worship Service (Men's Day), 10:45 AM.
"Man's Dignity in God's Glory"
We will be celebrating the ministry of Men in John Wesley on this day. Rev. Dillon Burgin, Pastor of People's UMC in Long Island City, NY and Bethel UMC in Brooklyn, NY will be the guest preacher for the day.

11/15:
Worship Service (Harvest Sunday), 10:45 AM.

Harvest Sunday is traditionally a celebration of the end of the growing season. We ask everyone to bring non-perishable goods so we can distribute them to homebound persons in the congregation and people in need in the community. Our pastor, Rev. Pauline Wardell-Sankoh will bring the Word.

11/22:
Worship Service, 10:45 AM.

The fourth Sunday of each month is dedicated to Prayer for Healing & Anointing. We also celebrate the birthdays of those in the congregation who have had birthdays in the month. Our pastor, Rev. Pauline Wardell-Sankoh will bring the Word.

11/26:
Worship Service (Thanksgiving Day), 10:00 AM.

We celebrate Thanksgiving Day with a relaxed worship service and a community Thanksgiving dinner afterward. The entire community is invited to join us for the day.

11/29:
Worship Service (Youth/Young Adults' Day), 10:45 AM.

The Youth & Young Adults of John Wesley lead worship services on the fifth Sunday of a month, when there is one. Expect the unexpected as the young people of John Wesley minister through dance, song and drama in worship!
This will also be the first Sunday of Advent, as we prepare for the joy of the Christmas season.

11/30:
Church/Charge Conference, 7:30 PM.

The Church/Charge Conference is the Annual Report and business meeting of the church. Our District Superintendent, Rev. Kenny Yi will be with us as we conduct our business.

December 2009 Events

12/6:
Worship Service, 10:45 AM.

This will be a Service of Holy Communion. Our pastor, Rev. Pauline Wardell-Sankoh will bring the message for the day.

12/12:
Bus trip to Sight & Sound Theme Park, PA. 7:00 AM.

The Women's Day Committee is sponsoring a Trip to the Sight & Sound Theme Park for the Christmas Show and a Trip to the Christmas Village. The donation for the trip is $150.00 for adults and $140.00 for children.

12/13:
Worship Service (Pillar of Fire), 10:45 AM.

This will be a dress-down service with a contemporary style of worship. If you're looking for something new, or you're a first-time visitor, this is the week for you to come out and join us in worship!

12/19:
Church School Christmas Pageant, 5:00 PM.

The Church School will celebrate the Christmas Season with skits, drama and singing for this occasion. Of course, there will be some great food served and everyone will go outside to sing carols and share the Christmas spirit with the community.

12/20:
Worship Service, 10:45 AM.

The fifth Sunday of a month is dedicated to the ministry of Youth & Young Adults in the church. The Young People of John Wesley will lead the day's worship service.

Christmas Concert, 3:00 PM.

The Chancel Choir of John Wesley UMC and friends will minister in concert in celebration of the Christmas Season. The donation is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under 12.

12/24:
Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, 7:30 PM.

Christmas Eve is celebrated by a worship service where Christmas Carols are sung as we wait for the arrival of the Christ Child.

12/27:
Worship Service, 10:45 AM.

New Year's Eve Watch Night Service, 10:30 PM.

The arrival of the New Year is celebrated with an informal worship service of prayer, praise and worship. The worship service ends with the congregation in prayer giving thanks for the past year and asking for a special blessing on the year to come.
