THE MESSENGER

Well, summer break is over, and school is back in session. It always seems to me that when school starts, the pace of activities around the church hits high gear as well. We find ourselves putting last minute touches on plans for youth activities, the new Sunday School year, Bible studies, Preschool activities, Contemporary Worship, Sonshine Kids, and on and on! This is an exciting time in the church. We sometimes wonder how we will ever find time to get this program or that activity underway.

That’s the problem. We wonder how WE will do it. If we aren’t careful, we forget that we have that very special source of help. As I wrestled with these and other issues in recent days, Carol discovered this piece entitled “Whose Hands” on the internet:

A basketball in my hands is worth about 19. A basketball in Michael Jordan’s hands is worth about $33 million.     It depends whose hands it’s in.

A baseball bat in my hands is worth about $6. A baseball in Mark McGwire’s hands is worth $19 million. It depends whose hands it’s in.

A tennis racket is useless in my hands. A tennis racket in Pete Sampras’ hands is a Wimbledon Championship.  It depends whose hands it’s in.

A rod in my hands will keep away a wild animal.  A rod in Moses’ hands will part the mighty sea. It depends whose hands it’s in.

A sling shot in my hands is a kid’s toy.  A sling shot in David’s hand is a mighty weapon. It depends on whose hand it’s in.

Two fish and five loaves of bread in my hands is a couple of fish sandwiches.   Two fish and 5 loaves of bread in God’s hands will feed thousands.  It depends whose hands it’s in.

Nails in my hands might produce a        birdhouse. Nails in Jesus Christ’s hands will produce salvation for the entire world.

As you see now, it depends whose hands it’s in. So put your concerns, your worries, your fears, your hopes, your dreams, your families, and your relationships in God’s hands because - - IT DEPENDS WHOSE HANDS IT’S IN!

I appreciate our friend sending this meaningful reminder. As we struggle with the busyness of the time and the issues of the day, may we all remind ourselves to put it all in God’s hands.

Grace and Peace,

Glenn

Editor Note: Carol served these at the Preschool Orientation Night – with RAVE Reviews. Thanks Carol for sharing!!

Kandy Fun Kakes                              4 tb. (1/4 c.) unsalted butter                 4 c. mini marshmallows                        2 tsp. vanilla extract                            4 c. crisp rice cereal                          ¾ c. butterscotch caramel fudge topping                                             12 oz. milk chocolate, coarsely chopped

Lightly grease 7x11 or 8 inch square baking pan. In large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until blended. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.             Stir in cereal and mix with wooden spoon until thoroughly blended. Scrape the mixture into prepared pan. With lightly buttered hands or spatula, press gently on the mixture to level. Place in freezer for 10 minutes.                                                 In small saucepan, warm the butterscotch caramel fudge topping to lukewarm (do not let it get hot). Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.                                         Pour warm butterscotch topping over the cereal layer, spreading evenly. Place in the freezer for 10 minutes.                In double broiler, melt the chocolate over hot, not simmering water. Set aside to cool slightly. Spread the chocolate on top of caramel mixture. Chill to set the chocolate. Cut into squares and serve.

Sonshine Kids

We will begin our year for 1st through 6th graders by meeting at Battin Park for a cookout on Wednesday, September 6, at 5:30 p.m. Bring a friend and be prepared for an evening of fun and fellowship. We will dismiss at approximately 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you then!

Church Conference

Church Conference has been scheduled for Sunday, October 8 at 6:30 p.m., so a covered dish supper is planned at 5:30 p.m.

All the committees are beginning to meet, making plans and goals for the coming year, so that they can be presented to the church during Church Conference.

Church Conference is an annual meeting when the District Superintendent is present. This year we have the privilege of meeting our new District Superintendent Dennis Kuder.

During this time, each committee presents its reports, the pastor and associate pastor give their reports, and the church goals for the coming year are approved. This is one of the most important meetings of the church and should be made a priority for each of us. Each member is an important link to our church and programs – without your vote we don’t have a complete survey of what we really want from our church

Pre-School News

School time is here again! The preschool started their year off with Orientation Night on Thursday, August 17. We had a fun evening with a project, refreshments and an opportunity to play in the preschool room. And of course, the excitement of meeting new preschoolers and visiting with returning preschoolers and families. We will be having two wonderful classes.

This year our classes will be held mornings on Monday/Wednesday/ Friday for the 4-5 year olds and Tuesday/Thursday for the 3-4 year olds. Our theme for this year is”Veggie Tales”. Combined with our new schedule, I am looking forward to a great year with the preschoolers.

UMW News

Penny Schwab will be our guest at the Thursday, September 7 meeting at 2:00 p.m. Penny is from Copeland, KS. She is the director of Mexican-American Ministries and a frequent author for Guidepost Magazine and Daily Guidepost. Please come and bring a guest to hear this distinguished speaker.

The church bazaar is Saturday, November 4. If you know of any changes that need to be made to the list of committee’s, let me know as soon as possible so they can be published in next month’s newsletter. If you are not on a committee and would like to be, let me know, we could use your help.

The Executive Committee of UMW will be meeting to discuss alternate times for our monthly meeting. Watch for information on this subject. We would like for everyone to be able to come to UMW.
