Her previous appointments are Buhl and Castleford UMCs, a yoked charge in south central Idaho (Eastern District) (1997-2001), and Wilder UMC half-time, and Caldwell UMC half-time minister of Christian Education in western Eastern District, 1994-1997.Gay graduated from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, a United Methodist school of theology on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, with a Master of Divinity in 1994. She was ordained in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference by Bishop William Dew, as a deacon in 1994 and as an elder in 1996. Spiritual formation is Gay’s particular field of interest. She attended the Two-Year Academy for Spiritual Formation at Mercy Center in Burlingame, California in 2002-2004. She participated in Companions in Ministry, a two-year pilot program of the Upper Room, through a grant by the Lilly Foundation, 2004-7. She has been active as a lay person and as clergy in Walk to Emmaus. Gay has served the Oregon-Idaho Annual as a member and secretary of the Conference Board of Global Ministries, and on the Conference Witness Committee. Currently she is chair-elect of the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry. She has also served in various Eastern District capacities. She was the Sawtooth Camp Site Committee program director for a number of years, and served as camp deans and/or counselors for a couple decades. Prior to answering a long-smoldering call to ministry, Gay taught fourth grade in Boise, Idaho for seventeen years. She earned a Master of Elementary Education and sort of a Master of Music Education from Boise State University. (It’s a long and winding, convoluted story of a journey that lends itself to long quiet evenings before an open fire.) Gay is married to Boyd. They met in junior high and in August, will have been married 40 years! In addition to being nearly a full-time church volunteer, Boyd works full-time as a hospital pharmacist. They are the proud parents of three sons and prouder grandparents of four grandchildren. |
