About Us... |
|
A Brief History: Johnston Township received its name in 1803 from one of the original owners, Captain James Johnston from Salisbury, Connecticut. Our church was founded in 1813 as the first in Johnston Township as part of the Mahoning Circuit. The first meetings were held in homes, then in a schoolhouse until about 1830. Later they met in a log structure. The present sanctuary was constructed in 1899. In 1924 the congregations of the Methodist Episcopal, Corinth Methodist Protestant, and Congregational churches in the township joined together to form the Johnston Federated Methodist Church. The first pastor for Johnston Federated was Rev. Ernest Newton, who in August of 1925 drowned while saving the lives of two young girls. In 1968 we became an United Methodist congregation.
Our Pastor: Rev. Jeffrey W. Coggins Pastor Coggins arrived in July 2004 after serving as an associate pastor at East Shore United Methodist Church in Euclid, Ohio. His ministry objectives are to continually seek God’s grace and direction in opening doors of service, and to share Christ’s love with others. Jeff and Darcy have been married nearly 25 years. Darcy is an LPN. They have three children: Candace, Corinna, and Joel. Candace and Corinna are attending college and Joel is a junior in high school. |
