FEET
Just plain ordinary tired feet.
Jesus cared about feet
He didn't ignore the head, the heart, the soul . . .spectacular
things like that.
But I'm especially glad that He cared about feet.
Not many "messiahs" ever did that!
You can wax eloquent and be beautifully abstract
about people's heads, hearts, and souls.
But it's hard to be removed from human need
when you are kneeling on the floor washing another's feet.
Dusty roads are scarce and very few sandals
are worn these days, but feet trapped in leather
are just as tired, and just as ignored.
There still aren't many "messiahs" around who
care about feet.
Not many at all!

Foot Power
We receive messages in a lot of ways today: mail, newspapers,
magazines, books, the Internet, E-mail, fax, telephone, cellphone,
beeper, television---via network, cable, or satellite transmissions,
radio, intercom. In fact, we're bombarded with messages.
Life was different in the first century. People most often traveled
by foot, and messages came from a messenger on foot. Transporta-
tion of people and messages by beasts of burden and ships or boats
was the exception, a luxury.
We have so many choices now in ways to communicate. When it
comes to communicating the good news of Christ, churches and evan-
gelists are intent on being current with the best techniques of the day.
That's as it should be. It's important to spread the Word as far and
wide as possible.
It's worth pausing to think, though, how much it means to us when
a friend comes in person to deliver a message. When someone comes to
to my front door, or even across the room to speak to me, that gets my
attention. That tells me I am special to them. That person-to-person con-
contact just can't be beat for adding warmth and meaning to any message,
even if it's content is not earthshaking. If the message is earthshaking--
as the gospel of Jesus Christ--how much more the message deserves
personal delivery!
"How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
