United Methodist Men

On March 6, 2003, the Stuart-Mt. Vernon, Menlo and Jefferson Center United Methodist Church was chartered for a United Methodist Men's group for our local parish. The mission of the General Commission on United Methodist Men is to assist men to know Jesus Christ, to serve Him, to grow spiritually, and to seek daily to do His will. United Methodist Men are committed to personal and spiritual growth in three main areas: Friends, Followers, and Fishermen. Our first goal is to bond men in friendship and to work together in support of each other and our local parish.

Out next meeting will be August 14, 2004, at the church in Stuart at 8:00 for breakfast and fellowship. We will have a short devotional program after our breakfast and regular business meeting. We are taking a break in July due to vacations, etc. All men are welcome to join in fellowship and enjoy a hearty breakfast.

United Methodist Men Update

The United Methodist Men group continues to meet on the second Saturday of every month for fellowship and breakfast. In February we held an evening supper (Hobo Stew) and had as our guest speaker, Mel Ammon, our district superintendent. It was a snowy evening and we had 10 in attendance, including Mel. Pastor Bob and Larry Renslow prepared the meal and Mel visited with us on his experiences in life and becoming a pastor and now our superintendent. March was the United Methodist Men annual meeting at Wesley Woods and we had representing our group, Gene Huddleson, Harley Wertz and Steve Kroeger. It was a good meeting and it was interesting to hear about all the activities of which the United Methodist Men are involved in.

In April we had our regular meeting and made plans for the Mother's Day brunch, which we held in May for Mother's Day. The brunch was a big success and was well received by all who were served, which was just about everyone who was in church that Sunday. It has started to be an annual tradition for the United Methodist Men to provide the brunch and something that the ladies look forward to. We hope to continue it in the future.
