Jefferson Center United Methodist Church offers an intimate worship opportunity in a distinctly rural environment, carrying on the traditions of family and neighbor in the countryside. Please join us for Sunday worship at 9:00 a.m. Where Is Jefferson Center Church?It's located southwest of Stuart in rural Adair County at the corner of 130th Street and Quebec Avenue. Or in other words, drive 2 miles south of Stuart and 4 miles west. Just follow the church sign. The Jefferson Center Cemetery is approximately 1 and one half miles west of the church. The first religious services in Jefferson Township of the Methodist Episcopal Church were held in the home of a resident in 1857. Later, services were held in the schoolhouse two miles south of the present site. It became known as the Wahtawah Church and was served by a circuit rider serving several other churches. In 1882 a building was erected where the present church now stands. It was dedicated September 10, 1882. A new building was built and dedicated in November 1914. This building was lost to a fire in November 1942. Services were held in the Jefferson Township Hall, one mile west, while the present building was being built. This church building was dedicated March 26, 1944.
