Cuba - The church of Cuba is a
praying and joyful church. In 1997 a Covenant between the Florida Conference
of the UMC and the Methodist Church in Cuba was signed to promote Christian
friendship and mutual spiritual support and growth. Many UMC congregations
in the North East District support a sister congregation in the Havana
district with prayer and the interchange of laity and clergy teams.
Inside are photos from Cuba Caravan trips to the Havana District.
Haiti - The Florida Conference-UMC
Haitian Ministry Team and the Methodist Church in Haiti are involved
in a direct relationship, seeking ways to provide assistance to one
of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, with approximately
80% of its people living in abject poverty. The needs are tremendous
in all areas and many missions agencies are working to spread the Gospel
and bring relief to our Haitian brothers and sisters in Christ.
Bahamas - A Covenant between
the North East District and The Bahamas Conference of the Methodist
Church was signed in Jacksonville on November 17, 2002, and in James
Cistern, Eleuthera on January 31, 2003. Priorities of this agreement
include the interchange of people as work teams, youth teams, preachers,
laity, study groups, teachers and choirs. Inside this album you will
find photos from previous mission trips to The Bahamas.
Habitat for Humanity International
- HFHI is an ecumenical housing ministry that builds simple, affordable
houses with God's people in need. The program is designed for families
who are interested in owning a home, but who would not otherwise be
approved by a traditional bank or mortgage company.
Guatemala - In September
2005, Rev. Jeff McClendon led a second team from Methodist churches
in the Jacksonville area to Guatemala for work on constructing an educational
building and conducting a Bible School for the area children. The churches
represented were Dinsmore UMC, CrossRoad UMC and Calvary UMC. Between
the February and September 2005 trips, Jeff's teams have ministered
to over 1000 children in Guatemala.
