Wee Learn on James

On Sunday, May 22nd, 2005, we officially recognized the closing of Wee Learn on James Nursery school. The school opend on September 9, 1963, offering one class for 3 and 4 year olds on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings for $15.00 a month. Eight years later, in 1971, the school expanded to five mornings a week, offering a program designed for 3 year olds on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and 4 year olds on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. This pattern continued until the end of May when the school closed its doors for the last time.

In the past 4 decades, our nursery school prepared hundreds of children in the Eastwood community for success in elementary school. Their moms and dads dropped them off here two or three times each week, and we wiped away their tears (both the parents and the kids) and set about preparing them to enter the world outside their family home. We are grateful to all the teachers, directors and board members who have nurtured this program through the years. And a special thank you to Marcia Gessler, who has served our Wee Learn Director for the past 10 years. As we celebrate the past, we look to the future, seeking new ministry opportunities in our community.
