THRIFT SHOP NEWS

Thanks for all the donations at Spring time. Let’s keep clearing out. Our shoppers are always seeking kitchen items. Mix and Match cutlery, dishes and glasses are great. Small appliances like blenders, coffee makers, toasters, microwaves are some things people don’t have or can’t afford.

Bring us your old artificial flowers and crafty items, too. We’re always in need of shopping bags of all sizes!

Bring it on! We love it! Have a great June!

Love from all of us at the Thrift Shop

Are you aware of our Recycle Bin? If you have any clothing which is soiled, torn and not sellable, please put them in a separate bag and bring to the Thrift Shop labeled recycle. We do not throw anything away. We recycle and get 5 cents a pound, which at the end of each month, adds up. We will even supply bags for this purpose.

Volunteers always needed. Busy schedules and illnesses leave us shorthanded on some days. If you can volunteer, even for just a few hours once a week, please contact Jan Corwin.

WHY GO TO CHURCH???

A church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. “I’ve gone for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”

This started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Editor” column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

“I’ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this…They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”

When you are down to nothing, God is up to something!

Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible!

Thank God for our physical and our spiritual nourishment!

Pre-K Class – Malari & Patty

This month the 3 & 4 year olds learned about Easter in the beginning of the month. They were also being taught how the Bible tells stories about Jesus and how he helps people.

Sunday School wishes to welcome the Nock Family to our church. Thomas Nock is our newest member to join Malori’s & Patty’s pre-K class.

K-1 – Julie

We are learning about some of the miracles that Jesus performed. Nothing is impossible with God. We are also learning the Lord’s Prayer. This should be reinforced at home.

2nd & 3rd Grade Class – Steven

The Sunday School year is quickly coming to a close and there is still much to be done! We will continue to do our weekly lessons, in addition to learning the Lord’s Prayer. If you could please go over this with your child, as it will eventually need to be memorized. Also, please have the kids bring their bibles to class! God Bless!

6th & 7th Grade Class – Hope everyone had a Happy Easter! We have been learning about God’s constant love for us. He is always ready to forgive us if only we will come to Him and repent. He will never let us down. He is our anchor!

FLOWER MART 2009

We had to struggle again this year with Mother Nature. It was damp and cloudy and the sun appeared every now and then, but the rain stayed away.

There was a lot of support from the church family and usual regular people who always stop by-------we sold a good amount of flats and Mother’s Day planters.

Thanks to all of you who came, helped setting up and/or breaking down…….that is the hardest part, but lots of hands make it easier.

We are happy to report that we cleared $875.00 for our General Budget. Thank you one and all.

FATHER’S DAY

Happy Father’s Day to all.

Today we honor all the Fathers that are here

and those that have passed on.

Without the fathers we would not be here.

These fathers have taken care of us with their support and guidance

through the years.

Many are grandfathers and great grandfathers

May God bless all these fathers wherever they are.

PEACE WITH JUSTICE SUNDAY – June 7th

“Pentecost celebrates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit calling for God’s shalom. Peace with Justice witnesses to God’s demand for a faithful, just, disarmed, and secure world.” (Par. 264.5, The Book of Discipline 2004)

The 1980 General Conference created a church-wide Peace with Justice program assigned to the General Board of Church and Society. By 1984 volunteer coordinators were recruited in many annual conferences and peace with justice ministries had sprung up throughout the church. The 1984 General Conference voted to support the program with an annual Special Sunday offering on World Order Sunday, established half a century ago to build recognition and support for the work of the United Nations. While World Order Sunday was set traditionally in October, churches were encouraged to observe it any time during the season of Pentecost to avoid a conflict with World Communion Sunday also in October.

The 1988 General Conference established Peace with Justice Sunday as the first Sunday after Pentecost to give churches a single, more convenient date for the offering and a name that clearly identifies the ministries it supports.

Seeing the face of Christ in others is not easy, but it is a commitment that the Rev. Deanna “Dee” Stickley-Miner embraces and encourages. As co-founder of Faith Communities Uniting for Peace, the United Methodist clergywoman works with Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Muslims and Sikhs “to live from a  vision of peace rooted in faith.”

“We witness to peace not from a primary agenda of politics,” she says, “but from a desire to be faithful to God’s dream for creation. All faiths proclaim a vision of peace where all – not just some – people are beloved of God.”

Working together, Stickley-Miner asserts, members of Faith Communities Uniting for Peace have “developed mutual respect and dignity, moving beyond stereotypes and prejudices.”

After the March 2004 Interfaith Prayers for Peace worship service and rally, “someone called me,” Stickley-Miner recalls. “She did not know there were people advocating for peace from a place of faith. She said the event helped to provide a place for her voice and convictions.” The caller plans to participate in future peace activities.

Your offering on Peace with Justice Sunday helps the children of God everywhere to live lovingly and peacefully. Half of the offering supports peace with justice ministries globally through the General Board of Church and Society, and half assists annual conference-related work such as Faith Communities Uniting for Peace in West Ohio.

“Live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you,” wrote the apostle Paul to the church in Corinth. Help to bring peace and justice to a hurting world. Please give generously on Peace with Justice Sunday, the first Sunday after Pentecost. Your gift makes a world of difference!
