IRVINGTON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH: Experiencing God through worship, nurture, and service
If you have discovered us on the Internet, we invite you to browse about at your leisure.
You will find good information about us on our Irvington United Methodist Church links. If you
click on “other useful links,” it will connect you to an incredible array of national
United Methodist Resources for your spiritual journey.
We are a creative, committed and cohesive congregation seeking to share the gospel and relieve
suffering. We believe that all disciples are ministers. We seek to be a grassroots, passion driven
congregation with a permission giving environment. We attract congregants both from the Irvington
neighborhood and from across the entire Indianapolis Metropolitan area. Irvington is a registered
National Historic Neighborhood and is one of five neighborhoods nationwide to receive the Neighborhood
Preservation Award.
We are currently “under construction” at our English Tudor Cathedral, adding a new
entrance, new restrooms, an elevator, and an entirely rebuilt grand organ. Summer Sundays at Irvington
UMC offer informal, non-liturgical worship with a hymn sing nearly every Sunday. During our “high
church” season, our worship features one of the city’s fine choirs, and we emphasize a
multi-sensory, artistic, ceremonial approach to worship.
The official expression of our church “DNA” is found at the top of this page. We
structure life together around worship, nurture, and service. We believe it is important that our
Christian life involve all three of these aspects of discipleship. We also embrace the spirit of our
denomination: Open Minds, Open Hearts, Open Doors. We hope you feel drawn to such a church. If you come,
we will welcome you.
