Church Council
There are meetings frequently and you may contact Susan Bowers, Lay Leader, to find out
the next meeting. Call the church office, (317) 356-7231 or send email
to her attention.
Mission Statement
IUMC Church Council is responsible for the specific programs and leadership needed to
reach out and receive persons, help them relate to God, develop them as Christian
disciples and send them out into the community to serve others. Council members come
together to share plans, coordinate efforts and ensure that programs in each area are
effective and mutually supportive.
All programs of the church come through Church Council for final approval. The Council
has control over 40% of the interest that comes from endowment accounts. This money is to
be used for non-budgeted programming.
In the past years we have funded shirts for the puppeteers, fans for the music room,
Bibles for the education program, pre-school equipment, pre-school scholarships,
attendance expenses for the Children and Family Ministries program in St. Louis and
start-up expenses for 21st Century committee. Also, the start-up costs for
setting up Internet access are also being funded by the Church Council.
Council Membership consists of the Chairpersons or Directors of the various church
program committees (Parish, Education, Music, Pre-School, Communication, United Methodist
Men, United Methodist Women), staff members including Senior Pastor, Director of Christian
Education, Church Secretary and 3 to 5 people as "at large" representatives who
are nominated by the nominating committee.

Finance Committee
Purchase Store Donation Dollars between
Sunday church services and
help the church!
The Finance Committee is purchasing certificates from Kroger, Meijer and Marsh at a 5%
discount. By reselling them to the congregation at face value, a profit of 5% is made.
This is a great opportunity to financially help our church just by doing something as
simple as buying groceries for our family.
Certificates are in $10 denominations and are available for purchase every Sunday. They
may be paid for by cash or personal check.
Restrictions on the use of the dollars are:
You must use the Store Donation Dollars at the designated store. This means that you
cannot use Marsh dollars at Kroger stores. You must use the dollars to purchase groceries
from a Marsh store. They cannot be used for alcohol or tobacco purchases. They cannot be
redeemed for cash.
Meijer certificates cannot be used to purchase gasoline at Meijer stores that sell
gasoline.
If you'd like more information, please email
us or contact the church office at (317) 356-7231.

21st
Century Committee
We have developed the IUMC mission statement along with nine primary goals and
objectives to address the needs of our church parishioners and its parish for the next
five years. We are currently assisting various committees and task forces with the
development of the many action plans. We have been working since January 1996 to formulate
and carry out a plan for growth and viability for our church into the 21st
century.
We are educating the IUMC congregation with regard to the long range plan, assisting
lay leaders with assessment, creation and implementation of goals, objectives and actions
plans. We are monitoring the implementation of this long range plan and assisting in the
plan modifications as necessary.
We welcome new members to this committee at any time. If you have questions or would
like a copy of the long range plan, please email
us
or contact the church office to leave a message.

The mission of IUMC is reaffirmed in the Irvington Community. It is a place that
we are called to do Christ's work. The ministry of IUMC is vital and active and
contributes to spreading Christ's good news. The worship services, programs,
outreach and missions are all outward signs of Christ's love and teachings.
To continue on this road of faith in action which began in 1998, we are following a
four year Capital Campaign of donations, commitments and fund raising to support two major
projects:
- Replacing the roofing over the original buildings of our church. (Completed Spring
1999!)
- Installing an elevator that will provide access to all the activity areas of our church.
Commitment Pledge Cards have been sent to IUMC members
and friends. We ask that you prayerfully consider your support of this Capital
Campaign as an investment in the future of IUMC so that we may continue to the future
needs of this fellowship and our community.
If you'd like more information and need a Commitment Pledge Card, please
email us or contact the church office at (317) 356-7231.
