Resolution: Support for National Workshop on Christian Unity
WHEREAS, the National Workshop on Christian Unity (NWCU) has since 1969 been an annual ecumenical event for all involved in, or concerned with the ministry of Christian Unity; and that it brings together laity, pastors, ecumenical officers, theologians and church leaders to exchange ideas and program, and to pray and plan together for the sake of Christian Unity.
AND WHEREAS, The United Methodist Church, through the General Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns, is an Ecumenical Partner in the NWCU.
AND WHEREAS, the National Workshop is an event created by people whose commitment to Christian Unity calls them together and it occurs because of the participation and long range planning of local hosts area in collaboration with the National Ecumenical Officers Association.
AND WHEREAS, plans are being made for the 2008 National Workshop to take place in Chicago, and the Ecumenical Millennium Committee, in which Northern Illinois Conference holds membership along with other judicatories, will be the local sponsoring committee.
AND WHEREAS, a wonderful opportunity is provided by this Chicago venue for our United Methodist people and congregations both to share in worship, seminars, and encounters, as well as to offer hospitality to brothers and sisters from many denominations across the country.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Northern Illinois Conference will share in the invitation to welcome the National Workshop on Christian Unity to Chicago.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that The Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns shall do all it can to facilitate our participation in every way possible.
