Worship and Music Committee -2004

The Worship and Music Committee is responsible for supporting the Pastor and Director of Music in preparing and conducting the worship services. Committee members choose an area for which to be responsible. Some find volunteers to serve as acolytes, presenters of the children’s sermons, liturgists, greeters, ushers and individuals to return thanks in the Hallelujah Service. Others attend to the special needs of the sanctuary. The committee is also responsible for providing the communion elements and for seasonal decoration of the sanctuary. The committee meets from four to six times a year, depending on need. Meetings are held immediately after the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

The Church continues to offer an 8:30 a.m. Hallelujah Service and a 10:30 a.m. traditional service each Sunday. The two services differ in length of time, type of music as well as presentation of music and other elements of worship. The hope is that the two different services will more effectively answer the spiritual needs of the congregation.

Time and Talent forms were sent out in August instead of September this year. The intent was for the forms to be returned early enough to be of help to the Lay Leadership Committee. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen. It is suggested that the forms be sent out in the late Spring in 2005. The Worship and Education sections of the forms were revised to better serve the two committees in the coming year. Revision of other sections might be helpful.

The Worship and Music Committee continues to emphasize the involvement of members of the congregation in the worship services. Involvement includes singing in a choir, serving as an acolyte or participating as an usher, greeter, liturgist, and server of Communion. Members of the congregation plan and give the children’s sermon. In the early service a member of the congregation gives thanks during the offering.

Music Director, Heather Blades, has developed an active music program that is a great benefit to the Church. Members of the congregation can participate in the children and the youth choirs, the adult choir and the children and adult chimes choirs. Special music presentations are given throughout the year.

Budget items for the Worship and Music Committee in the recommended 2005 budget remain the same as in the 2004 budget. There are some changes in the suggested dollar amounts however.

The committee expresses its gratitude to guest minister, Allen Polen; Indian Heights UMC member, Bob Douglass; intern, Julene Tegerstrand; and Youth Director, Josh Falk for leading Sunday Services during this past year.
