Meet our Faculty:

The faculty of the Illinois Great Rivers Course of Study Extension are approved by Garrett Theological Seminary. They are currently serving as fulltime pastors either retired or active. Click on their name and you will be connected to the classes each instructor teaches.


Rev. Rose Booker-Jones  
 

Rev. Jones is the directing pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church in East St. Louis in IGRC. She is a graduate of Friends University in Wichita, Kansas and Perkins Theological Seminary and is currently doing doctoral work at McCormick Theological Seminary.

     
  Rev. Dr. James Bortell
   

Dr. Bortell received his D. Min. From Dubuque Theological Seminary with an emphasis on preaching. He has served in our conference as a pastor, D.S., Chair of the BOM and taught in the Licensing School. He is presently retired.

     
  Rev. Dr. Terry Harter
   

Dr. Harter is no stranger to the COS, having taught for several years. He is pastor of the Champaign First UMC and received his doctorate from Boston University in the area of Religion, Culture and Personality.

     
Rev. Linda Horrell
 

Rev. Linda Horrell has an M. Div. From Garrett Evangelical theological Seminary and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Missouri. She is an ordained Elder in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference.

     
  Rev. Dr. Kenneth Hutchens
   

Dr. Hutchens has a Ph.D. from Emory University in Old Testament. He is pastor of the Countryside United Methodist Church in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference. He has had teaching experience at Candler School of Theology as well as at Emory.

     
  Rev. Dr. E. Michael Jones
    Dr. Jones is co-pastor of Charleston Wesley UMC. He received his D.Min. From Eden Theological Seminary. His interest is in Biblical Studies relating to ministry to children, youth, social justice and preaching.
     
Rev. Dr. Dennis Powers
 

Dr. Powers has a Ph.D. from St. Louis University in Historical Theology. He is pastor of Forrest UMC in IGRC. He has taught at McKendree College and the Licensing School. He is presently Dean of the License
To Preach School.

     
  Rev. Dr. Shalom Renner
   
  Rev. Dr. John Tymonko
   

Dr. John Tymonko, Kathy's husband is a pastor in IGRC and will serve as co-instructor with Kathy.

     
  Rev. Kathyrn Tymonko
   

A deacon in full connection with the IGRC, Kathy received her masters degree in Christian Education from Princeton Theological Seminary and serves as the Children's Ministry Leader in the Bloomington/Normal area.

     
  Rev. Dr. Bong-Choul Hwang
   

Dr. Hwang holds a Ph.D. in Theology and Philosophy of Religion from Iliff School of Theology/University of Denver.

     
Rev. Dr. Howard White
 

Dr. White is the Directing Pastor of Urbana Wesley Church in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference, and Director of the Wesley Foundation at the University of Illinois. He holds
a D. Min. in Preaching from Chicago Theological Seminary, Chicago, Illinois.
