RESPONSIBILITIES

The Scouting Coordinator should be an active part of the District Committee

He can call on the District President for assistance.  Once he receives Training Materials or Training he is basically on his own to fulfill his mission which is outlined in his training materials.  Conference Coordinators would like to hear once a year on his progress.  He should advise Conference Coordinators of any problems.   The National Director Youth Services/Scouting Ministries keeps all coordinators up to date with procedures and current policies.

Coordinators promote scouting in their Districts i.e. Religious Awards including Adult, Scout Sunday, Promote Churches to support Church Scout Units.  During the transition period as Scout Units are moved out of public schools encourage Churches to accept them. (etc.) It would be desirable if the coordinator had scouting experience and could secure membership on the local council Religious Relationships Committee or on a district committee so he can keep up with happenings in the program.

RECRUITING

District presidents should recruit then they will have a coordinator they can work with.

District Presidents should check on the coordinators progress, if he is unable to serve in this position due to more urgent commitments the District president should replace him.

Those districts who don’t have coordinators should try to recruit them.  Local Scout Councils might be a good resource.  The Conference Coordinators should be advised of changes in district coordinators so they can arrange training for those who are new.
