Welcome to our new Music Director!We're delighted to welcome Dr. Leonard Lehrman, our new Music Director/Composer-in-Residence, as of Jan. 1, 2008. Dr. Lehrman comes to us after serving as Interim Organist/Music Director at United Methodist Church of Wayne, New Jersey. Prior to that, he was Organist/Music Director at Malverne Community Presbyterian Church 1992-2002 and Music Director/Composer-in-Residence at North Shore Synagogue in Syosset 1995-2001, Christ Church Babylon 2002-6, and St. George's Church in Hempstead 2006-7. He was also an Assistant Conductor and the Assistant Chorus Master at the Metropolitan Opera, 1977-78. A graduate of Harvard College, he has an M.F.A. and a D.M.A. in Music Composition from Cornell, as well as a second Masters degree in Library & Information Science from Long Island University. Founder/Director of The Metropolitan Philharmonic Chorus and, with his wife Helene, of Court Street Music in Valley Stream and the Elie Siegmeister Society, he also serves as part-time Reference Librarian at Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library. His 195 works to date include 10 operas, 6 musicals, and 21 church anthems.
