one of ten districts which form the Illinois Great Rivers
Conference. Our district superintendent is Reverend In Sook
Hwang who has an office and home in Champaign, Illinois. Our
conference is led by Bishop Gregory Palmer, who resides in
Springfield, Illinois and maintains an area office there.
The mission of the Homer United Methodist Church is to
train, empower, equip, and encourage the laity to minister
and share the love of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ
with all people. We are an active, growing church of 240
members and have been serving God in this community since
1839, celebrating our 100th year in the current building on
July 28, 2002. We are a diverse group of people from all
walks of life, each bringing differing gifts, abilities, and
needs making our church truly unique.
We are committed to our community and its people. To that
end, we offer a variety of ministries and missions,
including Sunday School classes for all age groups from
pre-school to adults, as well as a variety of small group
ministries. We have two large and active youth groups, one
for high school and one for middle school. Our church
facility is home to the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts
of Homer. Our parish nurse provides services and health
opportunities on a regular basis. As part of Homer Churches
Cooperating we help meet the needs of many residents in a
variety of ways. We serve the Sacrament of Holy Communion on
the first Sunday of the month, opening the Lord's Table to
all, members and nonmembers alike. We have a variety of
fellowship opportunities, including coffee hour between
worship and Sunday School, potlucks, cookouts, monthly movie
nights and others.
You are welcome here and we will make every effort to
ensure that you feel welcome, loved, uplifted, and
encouraged. In a church of our size, we have the ability to
offer a lot without ever losing the warmth of a small town
church. Give us a try. You'll soon find yourself becoming
part of our "church family", in a place where "everybody
knows your name and they're always glad you came."
See you in church,
Pastor Stephen D. Burwell
