Liberian Well ProjectA giving component of Vacation Bible School The African country of Liberia is located on the north west coast of the continent. It did not exist as a nation state until it was colonized by freed slaves from the United States who, in 1847, formed a government based on that of the United States. This government was overthrown by a military coup in 1980 and is now recovering. One of the effects of war in this region of the world is a shortage of clean, accessible water. By partnering with east-central Illinois Methodist churches of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference, which includes the Homer United Methodist Church, we can help prevent water-borne contamination and diseases that affect our brothers and sisters in Liberia. In partnership with our conference, the Homer United Methodist Church is collecting donations during Vacation Bible School, July 18-22, 2010, to build wells for Liberia. Each $1,500 raised will provide enough funds to build one new well. We invite you to prayerfully consider joining us in providing clean drinking water for this nation. Donations will be accepted during VBS or worship or can be mailed to the church. Checks should be made out to “HUMC Missions” and write "Liberian well" on the memo line. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.” Revelation 21:5-6
